Definition
The satoshi (often shortened to “sat”) is named after Bitcoin’s creator, Satoshi Nakamoto. Because one bitcoin can be divided into 100 million satoshis, people can buy and spend tiny fractions of a coin without needing to own a whole one.

A cup of coffee might cost 50,000 satoshis.
