Blockchain Analytics

Definition

Bitcoin transactions are pseudonymous, not anonymous—all transactions are visible on the public ledger. Blockchain analytics firms like Chainalysis and TRM Labs exploit this by studying transaction patterns to identify who owns which addresses. While this makes Bitcoin unsuitable for illegal activity, it also means Bitcoin cannot claim complete financial privacy.

Example

Blockchain analytics firms use pattern matching to connect anonymous wallet addresses to known individuals or organizations.
